Wrote this in the summer of 2022. Was listening to a lot of Beatles at that time and felt McCartney's influence heavy here. It was originally supposed to be an upbeat tune on the guitar, but once I played it on ballad style on the piano I knew it had to be this way. Ruby is a character I made up, but she is inspired by my grandmother, whose maiden name I also adopted (originally spelled Holliday).
lyrics
The wild yonder on her TV screen
A house deserted in her mind
A world which once was very far away
Is getting closer all the time
Her life is slowly burning
Like the cigarettes she smokes all day
But somewhere she's returning to his arms
And finds that he's been waiting for his Ruby
I went to see her not a week ago
To sit beside her for a while
She said "your face is like someone I used to know"
I only answered with a smile
We spent the hours in broken conversations
That we'd had before
As if it was the first time all again
And maybe for the last time too
Oh Ruby
Ruby
I know the man who used to love her
Indeed I know him very well
She might have even mistaken me for him
But that I could not surely tell
Her memories fade and flicker
Like the cigarettes she smokes all day
But somewhere she's returning to his arms
And finds that he's been waiting for his Ruby
The wild yonder on her TV screen
A house deserted in her mind
A world which once was very far away
Is getting closer all the time
Hi I’m Craig from the Uk I’m not a talent show fan as a rule and discovered Jeremiah through utube..”thank god”!.
Well at the end of the day I appreciate a real honest and pure voice and Jeremiah has that in buckets.
America’s talent shows loss...the rest of the worlds gain as far as I’m concerned just keep doing what feels right for you Jeremiah and enjoy the ride and keep the correct people around you.
